This numbered list corresponds to the graphic. Photos of each follow. Alternates at the bottom of this post.
  1. Daffodils and Oxeye Daisies (DOX, pale white circle) coexist with the Echinaceas (EHP) and Rudbeckias (R )to give color in the spring before they come up. The Oxeyes are evergreen so they keep the bed neat and tidy and suppress weeds year-round. The emerging Coneflower and Blackeyed Susans cover the withering daffodil stalks.
  2. Coneflower Hot Papaya (EHP) is double echinacea in a very red color. Fills the pink teardrop-shaped bed.
  3. The Rudbeckia (R) can be any favorite variety (as long as it's perrenial), fills the yellow bed in the middle.
  4. The Peonies (P) share their bed with Candytuft (CT) which blooms early. Candytuft's evergreen leaves remain in winter.
  5. The Hydrangeas (H) complement the line of existing large shrubs, Rhododendron (R), and Forsythia (F).
  6. I've moved the buddleia (B) to the other end of the bed to give it more sun.
  7. Sedum Superstar (SS) fills the teardrop blue area. It's a compact clump-forming sedum about 12-18" high. This variety is very uniform. It's purple and blooms in the late summer/fall.
  8. Catmint Nepeta "cat's pajamas" (N) can be used in the bottom edge of the blue area. It's an option.
  9. I've added Baptisia (BT) in the top of the blue bed. This can be white or yellow or blue.
  10. Black and Blue Salvia (S) is added to the top of the yellow bed.
  11. Obedience Plant (OP) creates a small crescent at the top between the yellow and red beds. It's normally pink but I'm recommending the white variety here.
  12. A sliver of Cardinal Flower (CF) occupies the corner of the Coneflower bed.
  13. A group of Rose Campion (RC) shares the red corner but with silver leaves and magenta flowers. That should show up well against the Hydrangea (H).
  14. Shamrocks (X) peek out from between the bigger shrubs in spring and fall. The pink cloud.
  15. Borders of liriope (L) 10 to 12 feet across at the widest points, separate the lawn from the bed to minimize weeding.
  16. Creeping Phlox (PX) extends to the tips of the border on each end.
