Perennial Impact
The viewing distance from a car of about 30 - 50 feet suggests that large beds of a single plant are needed to be visible. Multiple plants can be used in stripes or swathes for contrast. This is an old Gertrude Jekyll style that everyone still uses.
Daffodils planted in the grass bloom in mid-spring. The area must remain unmown for about a month after the blooms are gone to recharge the bulbs. Banksia rose in the trees.
.
The white of a Dogwood makes the yellow better.
.
.The summer flowers use pungent plants like monarda, sage, allium, lavender, catmint to repel the deer. The daffodils have passed and the area now mowed.
.
Tall garden phlox is not deer resistant. But the monarda, allium, and other pungent plants area planted around them to create a barrier of unpleasant smells. Fall crocus in the grass.
